11.10.2003First Tournament!!!
The first tournament of the new year with ISSsoc being an official society, and it all went off quite smoothly.
20 members turned up to play in 4 groups of 5 and 6 followed by a last 8 knock-out for the title.
The group stages were generally very tight, with only a few outstanding competitors managing to win every match.
The quarter finals were even closer, with plenty of 3-2's and extra time winners.
The semi finals went down as follows: Dolan Shah 3 - 2 Ben Lomas and Jason 1-2 Dan Scott
The final was between Dolan and Dan, with Dolan going 2-0 up within 12 minutes. The crowd feared a rout, but Dan pulled
one back before half time and then equalised on 86 minutes after a period of extended pressure. It was all set for a tense finale, but Dolan dribbled through on 89
to score a late late winner and take home the £20 cash prize. Dave scooped a tenner for second place but missed out on the glory.
The ISSsoc committee didn't fare too well, with Secretary Mark narrowly missing out on going through from the groups, and President Andy going down to a narrow defeat in the last 8.
Unfortunately Treasurer Mike crashed out with only 1 win, throwing the form book out of the window.
Overall a good day, thanks to everyone who brought equipment along, which greatly helped the tourney to go so smoothly.
